A Social Media Cleanse
How much is ‘too much’? I’m not sure what it is for you - every person has a different limit - but I think the problem for me is that I don’t know what ‘too much’ is for myself. It’s like drinking without knowing what the legal blood-alcohol limit is; how can I stop when I don’t know where the wall has been placed? It’s time for me to do some evaluating, pull back, and find a level I’m comfortable living within.
You have to know your limits with social media, just as you do with any pleasurable toxin. A great analogy and a must-read essay.
It also just occurred to me that social games such as Words With Friends and Xbox Live are seldom included in these “know your limits” social media essays, but they should be. It’s the same basic drug in a different wrapper: they all require careful moderation. I don’t, however, think anybody needs to over-moderate to the point of abstinence as I seem to be doing lately. Just strike a balance with your desire for fun, release, and connection with your responsibilities, needs, and goals.
I’m posting this to remind myself more than anything.
